Hey Family!
I don't know how pday is already here, since I'm pretty sure I was just emailing but here it is again! This week went by really fast. And it's just going to get faster now that warm weather is (mostly) here. Also, our schedule changed this week so we are now in Kirtland for most of the day on Tuesday too, because we have a new sister in Kirtland! This week we got a sister from Temple Square to our mission. When you are a Temple Square sister you don't proselyte, so some sisters get sent out for a few months to different parts of the country to be full-proselyting. For some reason that we don't understand, Sis. Paravato has been sent to Kirtland--another visitor center--for her outbound experience as it is called. She'll only come to Kirtland one day a week though and the rest of the time she'll be proselyting with Sister Debenham (remember, the only companion I've been with for more than 6 weeks?!). Of course, this has made our schedule go a little crazy and with summer approaching, we're at Kirtland more, which is exciting. Although it means less time in our area...sad day.
As for experiences this week, we had some really good ones. Our new investigator Nick has such a sincere desire to learn more about God. He has been going through some rough times the last year or so and he wants so badly to know what is out there. He was raised Christian but when I asked him if he actually believed, he had to think about it and said that he thinks it is a possibility but it's hard to believe. So we taught him how to pray and asked him if he would pray daily. It's really hard for him to do that because as he put it, "it's darkness" because he doesn't understand, but we asked him to take a step in the dark and try it out. See what happens when he prays. He unfortunately didn't come to church this week because he had to work, but we've been talking with him about his prayers and he said he has been praying every night and that it's awkward but he knows it's going to get easier and he starts to believe. I love when someone says that :) We've also seen a lot of progression in one of our investigator's Man'Tima. ( pronounced Maughan-Tee-Muh. yes, her name has an apostrophe in it. Yes, I do plan on naming my first daughter that). She's been taught since November but now her actions are starting to align with the things that have been taught. It's exciting to see that change.
I got to see Mary and Pete Haessig yesterday! I'm sad we didn't get to take them on tour or go out to dinner with them, but we did come into Kirtland for the fireside that was here last night and got to visit with them for 15-20 minutes. When we had talked on the phone at sites earlier that week, she had called me "Melissa" and it was SO weird to hear that! I forget sometimes that I had a life outside my mission! hahaha It just seems so distant!
Speaking of life outside mission, I can't believe BYU's graduation is this week! Congrats to my nursing class! I can't believe it's finally here. All those times changing chuxs, staying up late studying stupid pharmacology and do all kinds of unflattering things and it felt like graduation would NEVER come. It's weird to think that I would be graduating with my bachelors in nursing this week...so unreal! I've been thinking about that a lot recently. Remember the movie Sliding Doors? Well I think it would be so interesting to see what my life would have been like depending on certain decision made. Right now I'm thinking of three different parallels in particular: if I had stayed and graduated this week; if my call had not been switched from San Diego (not that that was my decision); and the life I am living now, on a mission in Cleveland. But those kinds of questions are not going to be answered in this life and kind of blows my mind so I better not focus on that! haha. The point is, congratulations! I'd love to see some pictures after all is said and done, and let me know how the NCLEX is!! yikes.
Well, I think that is all. Love you all so much and have a very happy Easter!
Sister Maughan
